Olga Fricker's "Doctor Dolittle" Script (1976)-- Just what it sounds like, this is a full-length play adapted from the Doctor Dolittle stories by Lofting's sister-in-law and editor Olga Fricker. The community theatre staple is geared toward children, dramatizing both the Doctor's first African adventure and his subsequent experiences with the circus. And, because of the basic constraints of a simple play, it is the only adaptation in which the animals are designed to be portrayed by actors in costume. [The publication date I've given, BTW, is from my copy of the script; I don't know whether the play itself is older.] More to come... |
