Porridge Poetry (1924)-- The subtitle describes this book as having been "cooked, ornamented, and served up by Hugh Lofting," so I suppose it's not out of line to refer to the poems inside as airy little morsels--the equivalent of a literary snack. In plainer English, Porridge Poetry is nonsense verse for children of all ages, and at its best the poetry is light, clever, and whimsical. The book, which is practically impossible to find today, was illustrated by the author. |
