The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle (1922)-- And here's the award-winning sequel, which combines all of the charm of the first one with even more adventure. And there are also more human characters, most notably young Thomas Stubbins, through whose narrator's voice we get re-acquainted with the Doctor and experience the action. The story ultimately takes the Puddleby crew to Spidermonkey Island and unites John Dolittle with another great naturalist, Long Arrow ... but not before having the Doctor serve first as defense attorney for an unjustly condemned man (who can only be cleared by a dog's testimony) and then as a crusader against bullfighting.
