Doctor Dolittle's Zoo (1925)-- At last, Tommy Stubbins returns as narrator for this fifth entry in the Dolittle series. Set immediately after the second book's three-year Voyage, this adventure allows the peripatetic Doctor to spend a little time in Puddleby. His new project involves setting his garden right (after three years of neglect!) and then establishing in it an animal-run zoo in which even species which are naturally predator-and-prey may find a way to live together peaceably. In the course of all this, the Doctor spends much time with mice (taking down many of their stories for the reader) and eventually is led by them to neighboring Moorsden Manor, where he then tackles a little mystery whose solution has implications for his animal friends.
